The Alpine Resort Sportalm is surrounded by a wealth of activities – even in the winter season!
(Snowshoe) hiking, tobogganing, cross-country skiing, and downhill skiing adventures define your holiday here. Away from the groomed pistes, you’ll also find exciting and scenic ski tours. Families, beginners, and expert skiers alike can experience the thrill of the slopes at the nearby ski resorts. Whilst skiing or snowboarding, you can fully enjoy the amazing panorama and the fresh mountain air, followed by a hot cup of cocoa to warm you up. Where? Well, in the café on the Brunnenkogel with its free-floating panoramic terrace, for instance! At 3,440 metres above sea level, it is the highest point in Tyrol that can be reached by cable car.
Ready for more skiing insights? Here are some highlights of the ski resorts located near the Sportalm:
- The Pitztal Glacier: The Pitztal Glacier lies just three kilometres from the Sportalm towards the end of the valley – it is the highest ski resort in Austria! From September to May, you can expect fun on the slopes and cross-country skiing at all difficulty levels here. Together with the Rifflsee ski resort, the Pitztal Glacier has 67 kilometres of pistes and 120 hectares of slopes!
- Rifflsee ski resort: This ski resort is located just 2.5 kilometres from the Sportalm in the ski area of the Pitztal Glacier. The Rifflsee cable car starts in the village of Mandarfen and takes you up to the Sunna Alm, right on the shore of Lake Rifflsee, at 2,300 metres above sea level. You can either carve down towards the valley and take the Glacier Express to the glacier restaurant or take the chairlift up to the Grubenkopf mountain at 2,800 metres above sea level. There is a wonderful viewpoint here, as well as the starting point of both a black and a red run.
- Hochzeiger ski resort: Around 26 kilometres from the Sportalm, the Hochzeiger ski resort is located at the entrance to the valley. It boasts 54 kilometres of pistes, nine cable cars, a toboggan run, a snow park, and a “Kids Funline”. A special treat for families: free ski passes for children born after 2014!
