Step by step through a winter wonderland

Two snowshoe hikes to inspire you

In snow-sure Pitztal, at the foot of the glacier ski area, you’ll discover a wealth of invigorating snowshoe trails to enjoy this winter.

Wander through the enchanting Pitztal forest and revel in the calming silence, broken only by the rhythmic crunch of snow underfoot. Breathe deeply, inhaling the crisp winter air, and feel your mind grow clearer with every breath. It’s the perfect place to recharge and renew your energy.

Here are two of our favourite snowshoe hikes:

Hike to the Tiefentalalm mountain hut
Distance: 9.3 km | Elevation gain: 498 m | Duration: 3 hr. 45 min.
This hike begins and ends at the Scheibe/Piösmes bus stop (8.5km from the Alpine Resort Sportalm), at approximately 1,382 metres above sea level. The trail starts with a gentle ascent through the Pirchlwald forest above St. Leonhard, then follows winding switchbacks and crosses the Gschwandbach stream before arriving at the Tiefentalalm mountain hut at 1,880 metres above sea level. The return journey follows the same route.

Please note: The Tiefentalalm mountain hut is closed in winter and will reopen in the summer of 2025.

Hike to the Ludwigsburger mountain hut
Distance: 7.1 km | Elevation gain: 608 m | Duration: 3 hr. 30 min.
This hike begins and ends at the Zaunhof Grüble bus stop (15km from the Sportalm), located at approximately 1,327 metres above sea level. From the bus stop, the trail leads along the Zaunhoferbach stream on the northern side of the Geigenkamm ridge, before ascending through a picturesque winter landscape via a series of switchbacks. You’ll cross the stream twice before reaching the Ludwigsburger mountain hut at 1,935 metres above sea level. The return journey follows the same route.

Please note: This mountain hut is closed in winter.
